Here are some of the basic caring services
that you might like to consider.
 |
Companionship:
Whether it is conversation and company, playing cards, watering and
caring for plants or eating a meal together, having someone to sit by
your side and visit occasionally can help make for a happier, healthier
life. Loneliness is the number one cause for depression in those who
need care.
Personal Hygiene:
Personal hygiene services are some of the most important home health
tasks Carers are prepared to perform—and of course, will perform
with the utmost confidentiality and sensitivity. One’s personal
hygiene is not only important to their comfort, it is important to
their health. |
Family relief: also known as “respite care”,
Carers can provide a break
for family members who are taking care of their loved ones. If you
need to run errands, go shopping or get some much needed rest,
Carers will provide you some much needed free time.
| Dietary Care:
Some studies show that nearly half of the elderly living at home
are either undernourished or malnourished. Causes vary from
getting too little food to not eating the proper nutrients or to
food not absorbing into the body. Carers can help prevent
this very dangerous problem by monitoring their food and fluid
intake, helping to or preparing nutritious meals, or even helping
those that have a hard time feeding themselves.
Kitchen care:
A clean kitchen is a healthy kitchen. Bacteria found in some raw foods
(salmonella, e-coli etc.) can run rampant in a dirty
kitchen. Carers can ensure the counter tops, dishes, pots and
pans, floors, cooking utensils and appliances are all clean and safe.
Shopping:
Carers not only prepare nutritious meals, they help prepare grocery
lists as well. This includes clipping coupons, shopping through the
grocery advertisements for the best deals, checking on the food
supplies in the home, and disposing of old or spoiled food. Carers can even do the shopping for you!

First thing in the morning, last
thing at night:
If you or your loved one needs help getting up in the
morning, Carers can help with getting out of bed, dressing and with breakfast.
At night they can get the bed ready, help with getting into bed,
tucking in, making sure the room is at the right temperature, making
sure there is an ample amount of fluids.
Bed positioning:
Placing a person into a correct posture position is essential to
keep the body’s many systems functional. It helps to eliminate
pressure on bony areas and joints, which can cause bedsores. Carers
are specially trained to not only position clients
correctly, but also to watch for pressure sores and other issues they can
often face.
Diary keeping: Coordinating
medical and other appointments can be time consuming, not to
mention tricky for elderly and busy parents with ill children.
Caring staff can arrange and track these
appointments for you.
While some Carers cannot (unless qualified) administer medications they can be an “alarm
clock” for you or your loved one to take medications at the right
time.
Safety and security: Safety is a
number one concern for Carers, to ensure that the home is safe for
their clients and for anyone else who enters it. They can clear
walkways and pathways and monitor for other hazards.
 |
Care for houseplants:
Many elderly experience depression, helplessness and boredom.
Houseplants can help create a lush and loving habitat right at home.
Carers can help you or your loved one nurture and care for
plants; studies have shown that plants help to decrease depression
while increasing appetite and an “overall happy quotient.”
Improved TV use: Carers can encourage meaningful television shows to sharpen and
educate the mind. For those beginning to experience memory loss or
dementia, trivia and puzzle game shows can help keep the mind
active. For our younger clients, educational programming will be
encouraged. |
Health monitory:
One of the main reasons for having a Carer in the home is to
make sure that the person that they are taking care of is safe and
secure. Carers will watch for and act quickly on what is called a
“change in condition”, which means anything that appears out of the
ordinary for that particular person.
| Help with activities:
Everyone has a hobby they love, activity they enjoy, or an important
routine they must follow. Carers can help by planning and assisting
with these activities so you or your loved one can maintain
independence, keep their minds active and have a little fun! Carers
can arrange for friend and family visits, play dates for the kids,
trips to the zoo, shopping outings, craft activities, even to help plan their client’s next
holiday!
